Real World . . . . . aug 20 2003 — sg10.dat

A perspective in software development that deserves to be examined is this: focus on the problem before you devise a solution. What people usually do is fall into the trap (is it a trap?) of starting to develop the solution before they fully understand the problem.

This is one of the attractions of Agile Software Development. It encourages immediate solution, followed by reworking, or "refactoring" of the code as the solution becomes better understood. But what happens when you begin by focussing on the problem?

Actually Problem Frames [buy at amazon] . by Michael Jackson, begins by focussing not on the problem, but on the context in which the problem occurs. The real world. What a concept!
