Word Pictures . . . . . apr 16 2003 — pmwalk30.dat

Have media reporters lost their ability to create word pictures? I heard a story on the radio about a statue of Saddam Hussein being pulled off its pedastal in Baghdad, and the announcer said, over and over again, "Did you see it? I wish you could have seen it! Did you see the television?" Not once did he describe how big the statue was, or any other details about the scene.

The statue could have been 400 feet tall, or 40 feet tall, and he would have been unable to describe it without a visual aid.

Radio reporters need to rely on 'word pictures', or as we also call them, writing.

Speaking of writing, I notice that another one of my college classmates has just had a book published. I haven't seen the book, but the editorial reviews look interesting: take a look at Gender and Morality in Anglo-American Culture, 1650-1800 [buy at amazon] . by Ruth H. Bloch.
