Universal Didgeridou . . . . . jun 15 2003 — o22.dat

Eventually I discovered that the burglars had taken my didgeridou, a fragile yet deep-voiced wooden instrument over six feet long. As chance would have it, it's EXTREMELY bad luck to steal a didge, and they would be much better off returning it. After all, I know how to play it and they don't. Should they choose not to return it, they at the very least ought to sign up for lessons which will be given in the appropriate spirit: no questions asked. Of course there's more to it than that; four hapless thieving guys could reasonably be expecting aboriginial retribution from the dream-time.

As a welcome respite from the troubles of yesterday's break-in, we visited Universal Studios Tours. The Jurassic Park ride was challenging: at the end was a 500-foot drop concluding with a spray of water as the boat slowed. I misread "hold onto your lap bar," as "hold onto the leper bar." Thank goodness that was not correct.

The Terminator 2 3D movie and the Shrek 4D movie shared some characteristics: kinetic chairs, similar audience handling (they tried to scare us and we ignored them), and an effort to instill fear. Both mini-movies worked pretty well.

At the very end of the day, we checked out a huge water play area that soaked everyone who got near, but not me. I stepped too swiftly for the youths operating the water cannons to strike me with a stream of water.

We drove home on 'surface streets,' as non-freeways are termed here in Los Angeles, heated up some Thai chicken pizza and went to bed tired from a day of exertion and a day of emotion.
