Transitions . . . . . jun 5 2003 — o17.dat

People are travelling at last. They're moving, they're grooving, they're graduating. Are you? Don't try avoid it; it's June. That's when it happens.

We know someone who used to work for Air New Zealand, before the layoffs. After that, New Zealanders were preferred. Makes sense, right? Anyway, here's a little-known fact about ANZ. They fly through Los Angeles to London, so you can occasionally pick up a good fare, and all you have to do is check the fares.

At any rate, this is what led to us spending some quality time at LAX Terminal 2 this afternoon. Here's a hint for the waiting non-traveller: the bookstore, Starbucks, and the Cambio (money-changer) all close at the end of the normal business day. Not even open 24 hours, let alone 24/7. In fact, it looked like they all closed just before the 747-400 arrived from New Zealand. I guess it just goes to show, the main business opportunity is in outbound passengers, not arriving passengers.

Here's a travel tip: don't change your money at the airport. If you arrive with 20 pounds, you'll only get 20 dollars, because there's a four-dollar fixed fee for the transaction.
