Government Contempt for the Press . . . . . mar 31 2004 — act14.dat

Jay Rosen, in his blog PressThink, has a thought-provoking piece on Karen Ryan, entitled Why Karen Ryan Deserved What She Got, Karen Ryan being the PR propagandist that created the fake TV news propaganda piece on the new medicare bill.

For me, this was Jay Rosen's insight, although you ought to read the entire rather-long article:

"Therefore the Karen Ryan story was an episode in the battle for the White House. But it is also one episode in a conflict between the White House and the press that is not unfolding along traditional lines. It's going outside those lines to take in deeper convictions and new ideas."

And moving from the ridiculous to the sublime, in REAL news, and note that this does appear to be a true story even though tomorrow is April 1:

top doc backs picking your nose and eating it

And continuing on, from the sublime to the astonishing...

Not everyone knows this, but it does appear to be true. The Chevron oil company named an oil tanker after Condoleezza Rice. How cool is that? It was during the ten-year period between security council stints, when she was a director of the company. The tanker is registered in the Bahamas, and has a weight of 129,915 tonnes. Is this an unretouched photo of the tanker? It looks like the lettering and especially the Chevron sign has been slapped on in Adobe Photoshop, but evidently Chevron's tankers are painted red, so maybe the photo is legit.

Condi is the Bush team member that he refers to as "our poorest millionaire."
