Microsoft Sql Server 7.0 Database Implementation Training Kit Microsoft Press.
I read every page of this book including all the glossary entries (they were pretty dull but educational nonetheless. Possibly because they appeared to come from a different book?). I recommend it to anyone who wants to learn all about database creation in SQL Server. A very good value, the tome includes two CD-ROMs with examples, exercises, videos, a Books Online version of the SQL documentation, and a 120-day trial version of the product.

If you're fortunate enough to have exercise equipment, read this book on a treadmill. This may suffice to keep your body from falling asleep while your mind trudges on, chapter after chapter. If you're not intrigued by software, this book is probably not for you.

This book on XML,XML, A Primer by Simon St. Laurent, can really got you started with XML. It's comprehensive, simple, has plenty of examples and best of all, it's not too expensive.

The only downside, especially after reading St. Laurent's clear exposition of XML linking, was to find that the new MS IE5 doesn't really implement XML linking yet. Too bad, because it's coooool! This is a clear book that will set you thinking and planning and devising.
