I visited my favorite library today and came away with The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway. The only downside was the many words and phrases that had been underlined or circled in pencil. The book is short enough that it was no trouble to erase them all, but if you've already booked enough community service time, or if your predilections run to auto-marginalia, you might just want to buy the hardback. An existential fish story, it's definitely worth reading again.
