The Grid by Philip Gridiron Kerr
A few chapters in, I realized that this architectural novel was a murder mystery...and the main suspect was the building! Woops, I gave it away.

One after another, members of the architectural team are bumped off by a smart building in Los Angeles. For the title alone, this book was well worth the 50 cents I paid at the library overstock sale, and I'm sure it will make an excellent gift for a co-worker or beloved family member.
