The
Bishop and the Missing L Train
by Andrew M. Greeley
An engaging and largely nonviolent non-murder thriller set in Chicago.
The unconventional and resourceful Bishop Blackie is called upon to solve
the mystery of the disappearance of a visiting Bishop, nicknamed 'Idiot',
between stops on an El train. Actually, the whole train disappears between
stops.
There are plenty of suspects, since the 'Idiot' in his capacity of judge
of the Catholic court of marriage annulm ents overturned virtually every
case that came before him.
But just because this plot involves the Catholic church in Chicago, don't
imagine for a minute that there isn't plenty of romance, hot sex, and
hot psychotherapy. And course commodities trading, it being Chicago.
There are also moments of high humor, high drama as various non-suspects
are dragooned by the Chicago police, and of course the usual phlegmatic
mannerisms of the inimitable and resourceful Bishop Blackie Ryan.
All in all, quite readable.
